Research
Research plays a central role at Active Cues. We believe it is important that the Tovertafel matches not only the needs of the users, but those of care staff and families too. Therefore, all games are developed in co-design: in collaboration with the target group and those around them.
The first Tovertafel, the Tovertafel Original, emerged from PhD research by Hester Le Riche at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). During the development of our products, we work together with universities around the world. At Active Cues, there are always a couple of students who are doing research for their studies, which means that the Tovertafel is always improving!

Research for the care sector
In developing our products and games, we learn a lot about the different target groups. We see differences in play behaviour and discover which play experiences resonate with players. For instance, with the Tovertafel Original, the focus is on amazement and physical activity, whereas with the Tovertafel UP the focus is on fellowship: playing together.

For and by students
In recent years, students with diverse study backgrounds have done research at Active Cues, which has produced fascinating results!

Are you a designer who would also like to develop innovations for the care sector? The more moments of happiness in this sector, the better! We are happy to share our knowledge with other designers, because we hope that it will inspire them to use their knowledge and creativity for particular target groups.

Ongoing development
Research also remains important after Active Cues' products have been put on the market. To develop new games, but also to test what effect the Tovertafel has. For example, several evaluation studies were done with the Tovertafel Original, with positive results in the domains of emotion, social interaction and physical activity. Various follow-up studies are currently being carried out, and we are open to working together with knowledge institutions that would like to do research.
